Black Lives Matter
June 10, 2020
Dear Members of the Lord Jones Community~
We are heartbroken by the senseless killing of George Floyd and all those who are victims of police brutality and systemic racism. We share the sense of outrage and profound sadness at the injustice we have witnessed.
We are a diverse company and our diversity is our greatest strength, something we celebrate each and every day. We feel it’s important to share with you the action we have taken as a company.
On Monday, June 1, we convened a working group and invited employees to guide our decision on how to act. The working group concluded:
“The Black Lives Matter movement and the push to end police brutality are pivotal human rights issues that deserve our undivided attention. As employees of Lord Jones, we want to be on the forefront of change. We believe we can help create systemic change by immediately supporting organizations that are on the frontlines and by supporting national voter registration efforts and Get Out the Vote campaigns moving forward.”
Accordingly, to help address the crisis of police brutality and racial injustice we have donated $100,000 to NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Lord Jones founders have matched this $100,000 donation for a total donation of $200,000.
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans.
Additionally, the founders of Lord Jones are matching every employee donation to the following organizations:
To achieve the systemic change we are fighting for, elections are going to play a critical role. Voting is the truest and simplest form of exercising democratic rights and as a company, we will work to turn out the vote and protect voter rights in order to effect the positive change we seek. Look for us to use our communication platforms to turn out the vote in the weeks and months to come.
To the African American members of our community, we see you. We hear you. And we share in your grief at this moment in history. We are with you.
George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others have been murdered as a result of racism and oppression. We must all fight to change the system.
Black Lives Matter.
